James R Benn Road of Bones

Started on 1/1/2022.  Finished on 1/9/2022.  Loved this book and can’t wait to read the whole series.  This is actually book #13 in the series.  Billy Boyle (a Captain) runs the investigation of a murder of two people on an airbase in Russia.  1 Russian and 1 American are murdered in a supply warehouse.  Billy, Kaz and Big Mike must find out who the killer was.  Lots of things aren’t as they seem in the USSR and there are many characters in this book.  Great read, chapters are kind of long sometimes but I finished it last night and will give this a 9/10.  Love the writing style and characters.

John Sandford Shadow Prey

image_pdfimage_print

Book 2 in the whole series.

Started this book directly after finishing the last one (Silken Prey).  Started on 12/2/2021 and hoping to finish before 12/15/21.  So far the story line is good but chapters (again) are rather long.

Lucas Davenport is a Detective in this book. The book finished well.  I’m writing this late so I don’t remember much of how it ended.  I just know I liked it.  I finished the book on 12/17/21.

Silken Prey by John Sandford

I don’t remember where I heard about this book.  I started it on 11/22/21.  I’m three chapters in.  Chapters seem long.  Story seems easy to follow.  Characters are easy to picture.  Seems like this is a book WAAAYYYYY down in the series.  I don’t like reading like that but I’m going to start this book and see how many holes there are in the story that I “should” know.  11/25/21….So….I’m about 1/3 of the way through the book and I literally can’t put it down.  It’s a great story.  If the rest of his stuff is this good then look out 2022, I’ll be reading a lot of John Sandford.  I’ll let you know when I finish it.

So I finished this book on 12/2/21 and started another one of his directly after I finished.  I didn’t even take a break.  Lucas Davenport is a badass.  He has people all over that he can call and get stuff done.  Tyran Grant (running for congress) has some body guards that have to “take care of” some people so she can get elected.  Well…..They get busted and dead thanks to Lucas.  There are multiple story lines in this book with a computer hacker (and his wife (a thief)) and one of Grant’s other security guards possibly getting a job with the Governor of Minnesota.

Loved it and giving it a 9/10.  Only because some of the chapters were really long.

We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker

I actually forget where I heard about this book.  I started it on 11/7/21.  So far I’m not really that impressed.  The writing style is weird with a lot of commas and what seems like afterthoughts.  Chapters are to long.  Characters are named weird and I’m having a hard time picturing them in my head.

Finished on 11/21/21.  Characters, once you get them, are good.  The book is ultimately about the inner struggle of good and evil.  Duchess, hard knock kid, decides she needs to try and kill the man she thinks killed her mom.  She doesn’t know the whole story.  Star (her mom) is a “slutty” character.  Dicke Darke (wow he turns out to be a “good” guy) and Walk, the town sheriff.  Walk doesn’t want the town to change and does some things that aren’t in the best interest of the town OR the people he loves.

Duchess can’t do want she wants.  It gets done in the end…….

I still didn’t really care for the writing style but giving this one a 6/10.

Thicker Than Blood by Mike Omer

Love his writing.  Started this book on 10/18/2021.  The Zoey Bentley series is one of my favs.

Wow, this book is DARK!  Love the characters, the writing style, the chapter length.  I really dig his writing.  I’m still only about 75% done with the book but I’m loving it…. (11/3/21).

11/7/21…Once I hit the sweet spot of the book I couldn’t put it down.  Mike may be my new favorite author.  10/10 enjoyment.

Zoe and Tatum did it again.  The finally got Glover.  The cancer will get him or Zoe will….

Finished on 11/7/21

Her Perfect Family by Teresa Driscoll

So I started this book right after finishing “All our Darkest Secrets”.  I started it on 10/4/2021.  I’ve read three chapters so far.  I like the chapter style of different people per chapter.  This is the first book I’ve read by this author.  This is an Amazon First Read free book.  What can I lose?

British writer.  Lots of English references that you have to think about to understand.

Characters are well developed.

Daughter shot at Uni graduation.  Father, has secrets.  Mother, has secrets.  Daughter, has secrets.  Boyfriend (A) has secrets.  Boyfriend (S) don’t know yet but is cheating on his wife with daughter.  Oh S has secrets.  It’s not a ScoobyDoo mystery.  The ending was surprising.

I finished this book on 10/17/2021.  Ending was good.  Kind of predictable but I didn’t want to put it down.  The power was out so I pretty much read 20% of the book to finish it.

All Our Darkest Secrets by Martyn Ford

image_pdfimage_print

I started this book on 9/15/2021.  It’s now 9/28 and I’m about 50% done.  So far I like it.  The characters are easy to identify with and they don’t seem to get muddied up.  I have a mental picture of all the characters in the book.  There’s not to many to lose track of who is who.  The writing style is a little different than what I’m used to.  This is the first book I’ve read by Martyn Ford.

10/4/21 finished the book.  Ending was a bit harsh.  Didn’t really care for the book.  The writing style IMO was just not there for me.  I give this book a 6/10

Nicole Perlroth – This Is How They Tell Me the World Ends

image_pdfimage_print

This is a book I heard about on Darknet Diaries.  The last book I read from hearing him talk about was amazing!  I’m hoping this one will be too.
I started this book on 8/24/2021.

Soooo….There’s like 65 chapters in this book.  Each chapter seems to tell the same story from a different perspective.  This ISN’T a how to hack book but goes deep into political state hacking and the NSO group.  I only made it through like 30 chapters and kind of got tired of the book.  I rate this about a 6/10.  I may come back and finish it in the future.  It also seemed to take me forever to get through what I did read.  I’m going back to reading the suspense stuff.

Chasing the Lion

Chasing the Lion by A.J. Tata

Glenn Beck recommended this book one day on the radio.  I found it.  Started on 08/08/2021.  I finished on 08/23/2021.  16 days.  I liked the book.  It was a great story.  The writing style was a little rough.  There was a LOT of name dropping that seemed to “muddy up” the actual characters of the story.  There was a lot of action in the book.  Sometimes it was beyond believable though.  Kind of like Mission Impossible movies.  The main character got shot (twice I think) and still managed to beat an Olympic boxer in a final showdown punch out match at the end.  Come on man…..  The story line was good at keeping my attention.  The author has several more books.  I might check out one of those in the future.  I give the book an 8/10.

A Familiar Sight

image_pdfimage_print

A Familiar Sight by Brianna Labuskes.  Another Amazon Free book.

I started this book on the first night of our vacation on 7/26/2021.  It took me a couple of chapters (it’s a person/chapter book) to get into the characters but once I was in OH BOY!!!!

Reed and Claire Kent are in the upper 1% of wealth in Boston.  They have three children.  Viola (a phcopath) and the 2 boys.  Claire is found murdered and the bloody knife in Viola’s dresser.  Lena Ford (a lawyer) takes the case but then OD’s on drugs before finishing the case.

Gretchen (a sociopath) is a police consultant who knows Lena.  She’s on the case with another detective called Marconni.  They have to solve the case of who killed Claire Kent.

The last 10 chapters are very very gripping.

Enjoyment level 9/10
